Male ruffed grouse are known as "Drummers" for good reason. In the springtime they source out apt logs as a pedestal for flapping their wings to create a series of mini sonic booms that are used both as territorial warnings and to attract hens for the purpose of mating. This activity is known to peak at or around the full Pink Moon in April.
